Our denomination out did itself on December 3...Thomas Kemper was pleasantly surprised with the outpouring of United Methodist's support.
“We were overwhelmed by this giving that went far beyond our dreams,” said Thomas Kemper, the head of Global Ministries. “The people called Methodists once again have exceeded themselves in love and solidarity.”
One of the ministries supported was Appalachian Service Project. ASP has long been spoken in the halls and rooms of our church as for years teams of youth and adults served in the Appalachian area just south of us. In 2014 another youth team will be going to Kentucky to serve. I think we have nearly 28 people signed up to go. Keep watching for information about this team.
Walter Crouch, who leads the ASP, said, “The Advance is a blessing. Our mission of making the homes of low-income families in Appalachia warmer, safer, and drier depends on consistent, reliable financial support. The Advance provides just that."
