Food security is an issue in the Broadway Christian Parish community.   BCP Food Pantry shelves are usually empty before closing of pantry hours.  This month was no exception.  Several families had nothing.   Since the 60's Broadway has engaged in direct services to its neighbors.   Bringing these services and the gospel to all who entered their doors seemed to be a natural thing to do. 

 

Broadway Christian Parish is a United Methodist Ministry in the South Bend area and for many years received funding as a missional church from the North Indiana Conference apportioned funds.  What this means is every UMC in the northern part of Indiana gave to this ministry via having paid their general apportionments.  (A small portion of everyone's pledge went to support ministries around the conference.)  Times have changed and what our church sends on to the conference does not go to individual ministries any longer.  We have cut the mission budget completely when we became one big conference and churches were given the freedom to select where mission funds would be sent.     

 

Today the only way BCP can do the outreach necessary, they need the voluntary support of the groups and churches.   At this time 36 United Methodist Churches and 10 UMW units donate regularly.  BPC came to our attention when Pastor Jacob shared with us that a portion of our communion offering would be sent to this ministry and the National/International Mission team has done a little research to help us all know more. 

 

Thanks for your donations to the September Monthly Mission offering.   Pastor Jacob knows just how important this church is to those in the neighborhood.   Every morning the homeless arrive for breakfast, time of fellowship, showers and an opportunity to do laundry.   Every Sunday for the past 30 years more than 100 "guests" are served dinner after worship.  Radical Hospitality sometimes calls for Extravagant Generosity.   We thank you for yours.
