WHAT A GREAT DAY IT WAS...

Lots of serious packing going on Saturday.    Many volunteers reported they couldn't talk too much on the assembly line because it would cause them to get out of sync with the group.  Throughout the day 233 volunteers (including our 8 great kids who packed snacks) enjoyed time together and got some serious work done to address hunger in our area and in Guatemala.

For the "record" we packed 42,180 meals into 7,030 packages and placed into 195 cases with 10 single packets were put together by our volunteers.  As well as the children under 10 (8 of them) packed 350 snack packs.  Check the Kidz 4 Jesus blog for pictures of the kids day.

  Where does all of this food go?   Well, 4 pallets were taken immediately to the Indianapolis area and will soon be shipped to Mission Guatemala...we have a mission team team leaving for Guatemala on June 22.   We not are counting on it, but could be possible that the shipment will arrive while the team is there.  One of their tasks will be working with the feeding program there.

Today 40 cases were picked up by the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to be share with numerous places in our area.  Five cases were delivered to the Christian Food Pantry located in Asbury Center on Saturday, 8 cases will be taken to South Bend's Broadway Christian Parish, and 10 cases were delivered to the Hilltop Food Pantry along with the 350 snack paks our children prepared.  

Thanks to the leadership team consisting of Bonnie Albert, Mike Strayer, Deb Wuebbling, Joyce McMurtrey, Sue Clemens, Joan Weaver, John Kemler, Gabe Glass, and Karyn Custer-Jankowski for all the pre-planning, the day was considered a huge success.  Thanks too for the support from the staff especially Rebecca Reilly.   The event was sponsored by Unity in Diversity Committee.
